Sirius has updated its Web site to include information regarding its backseat TV project, saying the Chrysler Group and the satcaster will offer the service in the 2008 Chrysler product line.

We reported from CES this past winter that the satcaster had demoed the technology in a Dodge and hoped the technology would be available this year.

The satcaster has content deals with Nickelodeon, Disney Channel and Cartoon Network. The service will be available in some 2008 Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge vehicles, beginning with the Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans, available later this year.

Sirius Backseat TV will also be available on the 2008 Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, Dodge Magnum, Jeep Commander and Jeep Grand Cherokee. The system operates with an in-vehicle satellite video receiver and two small roof-mounted antennas.

Programming is displayed on the vehicle’s second- and/or third-row video screens, with channel name, program title and rating displayed on the screen or screens. Rear-seat passengers can watch the backseat TV while front-seat occupants listen to Sirius.

The backseat TV option lists for $470. That includes the first year of service when packaged with Chrysler Group’s Rear Seat Entertainment System and Sirius Satellite Radio.

After the first year, Sirius Backseat TV is available for $7 per month when packaged with Sirius Satellite Radio, which is $12.95 per month.
