Sirius Satellite Radio began broadcasting a live signal off its satellites from its New York studios to the Las Vegas Convention Center as the Consumer Electronics show opened Friday.
“We turned off our terrestrial repeater system in Las Vegas” so attendees can hear the live signal, said Sirius Vice President for Marketing Doug Wilsterman.
Receiver manufacturers exhibiting Sirius products at CES are: Alpine, Clarion, Jensen, Kenwood and Panasonic.
Estimated costs for the first Sirius receivers would be between about $300 to $400, said Wilsterman. He predicted Sirius would achieve receiver interoperability with competitor XM Satellite Radio within 4 years.
