Sirius Names New CEO

Sirius Satellite Radio has turned to a veteran of the consumer electronics industry – a man who was involved in the launch of consumer gear for DirecTV – to lead the satellite radio provider as it approaches its national launch.
Joseph P. Clayton becomes president and CEO. He came from Global Crossing, an Internet and long-distance services provider. He is also a former chairman of the Consumer Electronics Association.
He must carry out the vision of satellite pioneer David Margolese, the founder of Sirius, who stepped down as CEO in October.
Sirius is aiming for a national launch Feb. 14. The company touted Clayton’s experience in telecommunications and consumer electronics, including senior positions at Thomson MultiMedia, GE’s Consumer Electronics Division and RCA. It said he was instrumental in the development of the consumer equipment for DirecTV, the satellite-to-home television provider.
