Sirius Passes 600,000 Subscribers

Sirius Satellite Radio says it passed the 600,000 subscriber mark over the Labor Day weekend and expects to reach 1 million paying customers by year-end. Competitor XM has 2 million, according to its most recent statement.
Sirius stock traded up on Tuesday, closing at 2.54. It has traded as high as 4.20 this year.
Sirius President/CEO Joe Clayton said 64,000 subscribers signed up in August, the best month in the company’s history. Sirius credits its beefed up NFL and college sports coverage for the increase.
It debuts “NFL Sunday Drive” and new retailing partnerships with RadioShack, DISH Network, Wal-Mart and Advance Auto Parts this month.
