Sirius Plans Marine Weather Data Service

Sirius Plans Marine Weather Data Service

Sirius is working on the launch of what it says is its first premium data offering – a marine weather service which is due out late this year.
Sirius says weather services and precision forecasts company WSI Corp. will provide the marine weather content. The service would include graphical and text information, including water surface temperatures, lightning strikes, coast-to-coast U.S. and Canadian weather radar, storm tracking, winds and wave heights.
Sirius and XM radios are sold in marine versions. SVP of Sirius Services Larry Pesce said the new offering would extend the Sirius market position to include different marine specific services. The satcaster says its service can be received in the water throughout North America, offshore and in the Caribbean.
Sirius plans to introduce a new data receiver for use in conjunction with this service.
Pricing is to be announced later this year.
