Satellite radio broadcaster SiriusXM is launching a pop-up channel for musical tributes to Nelson Mandela.
The Nelson Mandela Music Tribute Channel will start Friday, noon, ET and run through Sunday, Dec. 15 on Channel 111. According to a release it will feature “musical tributes from artists such as Sting, Bono, Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys, Paul Simon and Hugh Masekela. It will also feature music that celebrates South Africa, the anti-apartheid movement and empowerment. In addition, the channel will play music that reflects the late leader’s history of fighting for civil rights, redemption and change from such artists as Carlos Santana, Bob Marley and R. Kelly.”
The channel “complements” other SiriusXM programming focusing on Mandela on other channels. In addition, several channels will cover the state funeral on Sunday.
