SiriusXM Gets Serious on JFK

JFK “pop-up channel” airs over the weekend

SiriusXM labors at some disadvantage to legacy broadcasters such as CBS Radio and ABC News Radio — it doesn’t have a news archive from which to gather on-the-scene and contemporary materials from the days around the November 1963 assassination of John F. Kennedy.

But that isn’t stopping the satcaster from joining in.

Starting at 6 a.m. ET on Friday, JFK: 50 Years Later is “a special weekend-long pop-up channel featuring exclusive programming drawn from SiriusXM’s multiple talk channels.” During the week many shows will take on the topic and those excerpts will be used to populate the channel.

Expect recollections and interviews with SiriusXM hosts such as Cousin Brucie, Bob Edwards, Joe Madison, Dr. Laura, Martha Stewart, Fran Tarkenton and show guests such as Dick Gregory, Chris Matthews, Sarah Palin, Dan Rather and Oliver Stone.

Programs such as “The Press Pool With Julie Mason,” “The Michael Smerconish Program,” “Stand Up! With Pete Dominick,” “Make It Plain,” “Morning Briefing” and “Midday Briefing” will air JFK segments.

In addition a special Kennedy assassination-centered edition of “The Wilkow Majority” will air along with two outside programs — “Inside Media: Covering the Kennedy Assassination” and “Eyewitness to History.” These originate from the Newseum in Washington.

JFK: 50 Years Later will be on Channel 108.
