Spotify Adds Features

‘Gapless playback’ and ‘crossfade’ introduced

Internet music service provider Spotify has made several upgrades to its service.

One of the new features is gapless playback. Spotify says that with gapless playback, songs will end and begin seamlessly — i.e., without dead air between them.

Similarly, another new feature will have songs crossfade at the beginning and end, like a DJ operating a pair of turntables. Crossfade will have a variable fade window; Spotify feels that crossfade will be good for parties.

Both features can be turned on or off though gapless playback will be turned on by default.

In addition Spotify has made a number of tweaks and performance tune-ups such as faster artist browsing and improvements to the Subscribe, Buddy List and Favourites options.
