Station Totals Drop

There were 26,304 total stations in the country as of Sept. 30, according to the FCC. That compares to 26,515 licensed stations as of June 30.
The current breakdown: 4,770 AM, 6,217 FM commercial and 2,512 FM non-commercial stations. There were 3,868 FM translators and boosters.
The balance of the total are TV stations which saw a drop mainly in TV translators and low power licenses from 6,824 licenses in June to 6,587 in September.
The number of AM and FM commercial stations remained fairly stable compared to June totals but FM noncommercial grew from 2,512 now, up from 2,497 previously.
