One radio employee, at least, is getting a big bonus for the new year.

There was tons of media attention this week for Howard Stern, who passed his first anniversary on Sirius. Reuters reported the satellite company paid Stern a bonus worth nearly $83 million Tuesday for surpassing subscriber goals.

“The decision to bring Howard Stern to Sirius required a very significant commitment and we are very pleased that our investment has dramatically paid off,” Chief Executive Mel Karmazin said in a statement.

This past year, Sirius also acquired and issued “The Tapes,” 23,000 hours of uncensored Stern broadcasts from the last 20 years. They are aired on a weekly series, “Master Tape Theatre.”
