Students at the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts in the Astoria section of Queens in New York got something of a surprise on Wednesday when Paul McCartney dropped in.

Clear Channel’s Jim Kerr of WAXQ(FM) hosted the event, which turned out to be an album release party for McCartney’s next album. Sir Paul answered some questions and had a brief performance. The album is officially released on Oct. 15.

Clear Channel will be heavily promoting it and playing it on its classic hits, classic rock, oldies and AC stations.

Also in attendance was Tony Bennett, who was instrumental in the founding of the school in 2001.

No word on how many kids are kicking themselves for playing hooky on Wednesday.
