Suspect Charged in WCIS Theft

Sheriff’s office says evidence in stolen truck connects him to the crime

A suspect has been charged in last week’s copper theft and vandalism at WCIS(AM), Morganton, N.C.

Steve Woody has been charged with felony breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, and possession of stolen goods, according to the Burke County Sheriff’s Department.

The News Herald reports Woody was also charged with possession of a stolen Ford pickup truck, which led to his capture.

Evidence in the back of the truck connected him to the theft, and property damage came to about $50,000, according to the sheriff’s office.

We reported the theft took WCIS, a Class D non-directional daytimer, off the air and the owner hopes to return the station to air this week with a used transmitter.
