House Commerce Chairman Billy Tauzin, R-La., has turned down a position as president of the Motion Picture Association of America, but is now thinking over another offer from a pharmaceutical trade association, sources are telling The Washington Post.
There have been rumors for months about the MPAA position to succeed Jack Valenti as president. Tauzin, through his spokesman Ken Johnson, has steadily denied Tauzin was leaving Congress.
Now, Johnson acknowledged the MPAA offer, but tells the Post, “Billy did not believe this was the best fit for him and his family.”
Should Tauzin accept the offer from the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, Louisiana would likely hold a special election to fill his congressional seat.
