Powerful House Republican Billy Tauzin is urging FCC Chairman Powell to move quickly on changing the newspaper/broadcast cross-ownership rule, which he calls outdated.
In a letter to Powell, Tauzin stated: “I am disappointed with the commission’s decision to defer what should be an immediate repeal of this outdated rule. However, I am heartened that final resolution of all of the outstanding broadcast ownership issues … is on the horizon.”
The commission plans to bundle all of its ownership proceedings and act on them together by the coming spring. Tauzin is House Energy and Commerce Committee chairman.
