The newest Zephyr from Telos Systems is a POTS codec with notable differences.
It uses an enhanced version of MPEG AAC called AAC-SBR, for Advanced Audio Coding Spectral Band Replication, to enhance the efficiency of AAC by 30%. The box also lets the user dial ISDN-connected Zephyr Xstream transceivers using analog phone lines – thus providing an ISDN connection at the studio while the call is made from POTS. Telos says that means better line quality and more convenience.
Features include a mixer with selectable Omnia dynamics processing. Projected cost is $2,390; the unit ships later this year.
