Texas LPFM Faces $9,000 Penalty

FCC says Greenville station has no EAS equipment

A Texas low-power FM faces a $9,000 fine for not having any EAS gear.

In response to an unrelated complaint about Spanish-format KYLP(LP), Greenville, Texas, an agent with the FCC’s Dallas office of its Enforcement Bureau inspected the facility in March 2012. That’s when the agent saw there was no EAS equipment installed in the studio, nor at the transmitter site.

There were no logs indicating EAS gear had ever been operational at the station, according to the FCC.

The base fine is $8,000, and the agency tacked on an extra $1,000 because of the lack of EAS logs.

Licensee Iglesia Cristiana Ebenezer has 30 days to appeal or pay as well as submit proof within that time that EAS equipment has been installed and is in working order.
