Program Director, consultant and producer Steve Warren recently reached a milestone: 50 years in the biz.
In 1963, Warren began his professional radio career with his first paid radio job at WKLO(AM) in Louisville, Ky. He had recently graduated from New Albany High School, which premiered the first high school FM station in the United States, WNAS, where he was a member of the radio staff.
“In those days, there were two hot top 40 stations in Louisville, WKLO and WAKY[AM],” Warren said. “I was a WKLO guy and dreamed of working there while attending junior and senior high school. I beat their door down for several weeks before they found a summer job for me.”
Now, he is still working as host/producer of the weekly “Country Oldies Show” on the Envision Radio Network.
Warren was also one of the first program directors and on-air personalities at Sirius Satellite Radio, where he helped develop Sirius’ country music channels. Warren is still on the air at SiriusXM as a news announcer for the “Howard Stern Show.” He is also executive producer of Chinamerica Radio, a 24-hour Internet station featuring top contemporary Chinese pop music.
To commemorate his 50th anniversary in radio, Warren has scheduled a year of public speaking engagements, beginning with addressing his 1963 New Albany High School class reunion in New Albany, Indiana.
