Former CBS Radio, Clear Channel programmer Jason Kidd is hanging out his shingle in the form of Next Generation Radio, a programming consultancy.
He’ll be peddling a format that he calls “Smash Hits.” He explains, “There are oldies/classic hit stations that target 50 and over but very few focus on the 30–50 year old demographic.” He adds that the format will concentrate on “80s hits with some late ’70s and early ’90s mixed in” and “not just rock or new wave, but all the hits!”
The format won’t necessarily be 24/7 but capable of integrating with CHR, rhythmic, urban, adult hits, hot AC/adult CHR, rhythmic AC, classic rock and classic hits, Kidd says. Kidd has programmed at stations such as Washington’s WPGC(FM) and Baltimore’s WQSR(FM).
