If you like to track which Internet radio channels are popular, take a good look. Arbitron’s Measurecast ratings for February are the last of the monthly reports.
Arbitron announced recently that it would no longer issue weekly and monthly ratings for online streaming services, saying there wasn’t enough money in it. It had licensed the MeasureCast name and technology from that company in late 2002.
The remaining ratings to come between now and mid-April will be weekly ratings.
The top 15 Internet broadcasters and sales networks in February, in order, according to Arbitron, were AOL Radio@Network, Launch, MusicMatch, Adsertion Network, Virgin Radio, AccuRadio, KEXP, KillerOldies.com, KPLU, Emap, Mak and FM stations WOXY, WBUR, WXPN and WKSU.
The difference between the top and bottom of the leader’s list: AOL had 25.1 million hours total time spent listening, while WKSU had 302,300.
For individual channels last month, 10 of the top 15 were AOL’s. Its Love Songs channel climbed to the fourth slot with 1.01 million hours of total time spent listening, perhaps helped by Valentine’s Day.
MusicMatch Artist Match was the top non-commercial Internet Broadcast Station; Virgin Radio was the top commercial Internet Broadcast Station.
