Clear Channel Radio’s Total Traffic Network and TomTom will offer “Lifetime Traffic Updates” on several TomTom RDS-TMC equipped portable navigation units.
Customers will receive these updates free for the useful life of the device, the companies said. Those who buy a TomTom Lifetime Traffic subscription receive non-transferable traffic data for one compatible TomTom product until the product’s useful life expires or TomTom no longer receives traffic updates from its suppliers.
(Useful life means the period of time the TomTom product is serviceable and/or supportable by TomTom, including whether the TomTom product has sufficient memory or software to accept updates to the original traffic data, according to the companies.)
TomTom and Total Traffic Network started working together in 2007 to provide traffic on TomTom’s portable navigational devices on a monthly subscription basis.
CC says its Total Traffic Network now is supplying real-time traffic data to 125 million users through agreements with automotive manufacturers and navigation device makers including TomTom, Garmin and others.
