Towering Figures to Gather for NATE Event

Annual convention sets up in OKC

If there’s a job in broadcasting that really is a “calling,” it’s tower erection. You either can do it or cower in fear at the thought of plummeting to your fate.

So where are tower erectors going to be in mid-late February, when the thought of scurrying up a tower makes even some of these folks nervous? In Oklahoma City at the 16th annual National Association of Tower Erectors conference and exposition.

There will be an awards reception and a keynote address from Kurt Bagwell, senior vice president and COO of SBA Communications, a wireless infrastructure owner and operator. He will address safety in practice and in company policy.

While the NATE show floor might look like a kid’s Erector Set fantasy writ large, there will be other exhibitors ranging from safety equipment to the latest in tower lighting.

Of course there will also be educational sessions. Sessions run the gamut from NATE authorized climber training courses to business and regulation considerations to all manner of equipment concerns even to wind power for telecom sites. And more than a few safety sessions are available.

Advanced registration is available up to Jan. 29, 2011.
