Townsquare Media Chooses Digital Alert Systems

Piecemeal network brought into CAP/EAS synchronization

Townsquare Media, owner of 170 radio stations in 36 markets, has settled on Digital Alert Systems DASDEC-II EAS/CAP messaging systems as part of a company-wide upgrade of its EAS system, according to the manufacturer.

The broadcast company purchased 63 DASDEC-IIs with the DASRADR package, which has three internal radio receivers in each unit. According to Digital Alert Systems, the cost to use CAP converters would not have been much less.

Townsquare Vice President of Engineering Norman Philips was quoted by the manufacturer saying his company plans to interface the DASDEC system with its RCS NexGen automation system, “a pairing that will allow the EAS to run automatically without interrupting music or for stop sets.”

Also, according to a release, “Townsquare Media’s LP1 and LP2 stations will have a separate DASDEC unit dedicated to them. Because Townsquare Media markets have as many as seven stations, the company purchased its new DASDEC systems with MultiStation-2 or MultiStation-5 software to facilitate multiple station operation and redundancy in each market. These software options respectively enable one DASDEC to provide complete EAS coverage for two or up to five colocated stations.”
