Triton Digital Ranker Reports Streaming Is Up

Average active sessions reaches all-time high

Triton Digitalhas released its monthly ranker for October 2015, which shows the top streaming audio providers and listening trends for the period among its clients.

All measured clients in October 2015 showed 4,406,524 average active sessions within the domestic Unites States during the Monday–Friday 6 a.m.–8 p.m. daypart, and 3,647,930 AAS during the Monday–Sunday 6 a.m.–Midnight daypart. This is a new record high, according to the report.

The news/talk format showed the largest listening gain in October, with a 21.5% increase in AAS, followed by sports (14.3%). Political debates contributed to the growth of news/talk, while the Major League Baseball playoffs and the start of the National Hockey League season contributed to the gain in listeners for sports streams.

In the top 20 markets nationwide, Boston showed the largest listening gain with a 30.4% increase in AAS, followed by Sacramento (20.5%), Milwaukee (20.2%), San Francisco (19.7%) and Seattle (18.8%).

Mobile listening is up 13.7% from the beginning of 2015 and broadcast mobile listening is up 14.9% in the Domestic Monday–Friday 6 a.m.–8 p.m. daypart.

Specific to the listening platform and browser, 37% of listening took place on an iOS device, followed by Android at 31%, and Google Chrome and Flash at 9% each, during the Monday–Friday 6 a.m.–8 p.m. daypart.
