U.K. Digital Christmas Campaign Begins

Runs from Nov. 28 to Dec. 25 on the country’s national and local commercial, public radio stations

The United Kingdom’s Christmas radio campaign for digital radio began this weekend on commercial radio and BBC Radio.

Encouraging people to buy a digital radio to give as a gift for the holidays, the “If you love radio, give digital” campaign is running on some 100 national and local commercial radio stations from Nov. 28 and on BBC radio stations from Dec. 6 until Dec. 24.

In the U.K., digital listening now accounts for 37.8 percent of all listening hours and 58 percent of new cars now come with digital radio as standard, explained Digital Radio UK. BBC coverage for its national stations has just reached 95 percent (indoor coverage), and its plan to reach 97 percent is due to be completed by the end of 2015, it said.

Elsewhere switch-ons of local DAB are slated to take place in North Wales on Dec. 12 and in North Yorkshire on Dec. 17.
