Unions to Release Newsroom Poll Citing Decline in Reporting Due to Consolidation

Unions representing half a million media workers plan to join with Rep. Maurice Hinchey, D-N.Y. and other members of Congress Tuesday to call for public hearings as the FCC reconsiders its media ownership rules. Joining them will be FCC Commissioners Michael Copps and Jonathan Adelstein.
Media unions will be asking FCC Chairman Michael Powell to “seek broad-based public input where the impact of such regulatory changes will be felt the most – local media markets.”
The unions plan to release a survey of print and broadcast news professionals, which they say will provide insight into the impact of continued media consolidation on news reporting and diversity of opinion.
