“Black people are not dark-skinned white people.”
That was part of the message of keynote speaker Bill Lamar at a Power of Urban Radio symposium in Atlanta. Sales and marketing company Interep said 300 people attended. It was part of a series of Interep events about radio reaching various demographic groups, this one timed with Black History Month.
Lamar, who oversees national marketing for McDonald’s Corp., spoke about the lifestyles and preferences of black consumers.
A roundtable included Mary Catherine Sneed, COO of Radio One; Jeff Smulyan, chairman of Emmis Communications; Lew Dickey Jr., CEO of Cumulus Radio; Charles Warfield, COO of ICBC Communications; and Steve Hegwood, CEO of On Top Communications.
