Though Britain plans to open its broadcast industry to foreign ownership, don’t look for this country to follow suit. There’s a 20% cap on foreign ownership of any U.S. broadcaster; that cap rises to 25% on indirect ownership interests.
Experts told The Wall Street Journal they doubted the U.S. would move to change its rules in a similar fashion due to increased security concerns since the terrorist attacks.
Last week, Britain said it planned to eliminate its rule that limits ownership of its broadcast companies to 25% by companies outside the European Union.
