Ventura Chooses VoiceStar

County emergency communications made portable

Ventura County in California is using newly acquired VoiceStar Portable Emergency Advisory Radio Stations for its Operation Medical Shelter disaster simulation for local emergency response personnel.

The supplier is Information Station Specialists.

The VoiceStar is a towable trailer that contains a programmable LED sign, batteries, a solar cell, digital message player and a low-power tuned AM transmitter for transmitting emergency and warning messages.

ISS said it can be deployed quickly and is designed to be self-sufficient. Options allow for wireless communication with a base via cell phone.

Ventura County previously had acquired a RadioSTAT Portable Emergency Advisory Radio Station, also from Information Station Specialists. That system consists of portable rolling case with installed message player, broadcast interface equipment, low-power tuned AM transmitter along with anything else needed for setting up a short range AM radio broadcast. A separate portable vertical antenna is available as an option.
