Vets Take Over WPYX

Hall of Famer Robinson featured on SiriusXM

Classic rocker WPYX(FM), an iHeartMedia property in Albany, N.Y., is pulling out the stops on Veterans Day by giving select vets the run of the place. Over a two-week period in October, the station sought veterans to be on-air personalities for Veterans Day.

Good to their word, WPYX plans to have 12 vets host hour-long shows on Tuesday. They will spin tracks and talk. IHeartMedia Regional Programming Manager John Cooper said, “We’re excited to host local veterans on-air to play their favorite music and to tell our listeners about their experiences.”

On SiriusXM, NBA Hall of Fame player David Robinson, a career-long San Antonio Spur, will co-host “NBA Cares: Hoops for Troops.” Before joining the NBA, Robinson, a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, spent two years in the Navy.

His co-host will be SiriusXM Patriot channel host David Webb.

According to a release, “Robinson and Webb will honor the service of the men and women of the United States military, discuss Robinson’s experience at the U.S. Naval Academy and his involvement with the Navy before during and after his career, and will highlight some of the NBA’s efforts to support America’s troops.”

They will be joined by Adm. Jonathan Greenert, chief of Naval Operations.
