Version 4.0 software for Studer Vista consoles adds 5.1 input source management and channel panning, as well as a new “Vintage” dynamics package and a VST plug-in capability.
“Vintage” gives users a more retro style of compressor-gate/expander and enables a more pronounced effect than that of standard dynamics. The flexibility of the “Vintage” compressor section permits different types of sound coloration and extreme effects. Compressor settings include soft-knee width and peak or RMS detection.
There is also a “wet/dry” blending control, which enables, for example, “parallel” or “upward” compression without the need for complicated or extensive routing, or for delay compensation.
With the Studer 5.1 input channel, the engineer can now have input, EQ, dynamics and panning sections totally designed for premixed 5.1 input sources. It is possible to adjust key parameters directly by touching the Vistonics screen without needing to “spill” single mono or stereo channels to additional faders.
The new firmware also improves width control of the whole surround image, allowing users to vary the “depth” between the front and rear signals up to 200 percent.
