VOA Notes Anniversary of Central Africa Service

VOA’s Central Africa Service is noting its 10th anniversary.
The service was created following the Rwanda genocide and is aimed at the Great Lakes region of Africa. “Created on July 15, 1996, the service broadcasts radio programs in the Kirundi and Kinyarwanda languages to Burundi, Rwanda, Tanzania, and the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.”
VOA cited the service’s interviews with public figures as well as features on HIV/AIDS patients, orphans, single mothers, medical professionals, NGO leaders and separated families.
It airs seven hours a week on shortwave and on a VOA FM frequency in Kigali, Rwanda; VOA also broadcasts on FM through Radio Publique Africaine in Bujumbura, Burundi and Radio Kwizera in Ngara, Tanzania.
