VOA Updates Urdu Service in South Asia

VOA has added a service in the Urdu language, for Pakistanis and other speakers of the language in India and elsewhere; it replaces the earlier VOA Urdu Service.
Radio Aap ki Dunyaa transmits 12 hours a day. The name means “Your World.” The program runs 7 p.m.-7 a.m. Pakistan time. It airs on a medium-wave AM signal at 972 kHz and is also carried on shortwave, satellite and the Internet. Staff of the earlier VOA Urdu Service are part of the new entity.
Its target demo is listeners ages 15-39; it will be staffed in Washington by 27 people and use stringers in Pakistan, India and North America. Dr. Brian Silver is chief.
