Volkswagen Introduces Sirius on Used Vehicles

Three-month trial part of VW ‘Pre-Loved’ program

Sirius XM Radio and Volkswagen of America will include introductory three-month trial satellite radio packages to buyers of certified VW used vehicles in the U.S. as the satcaster looks for new sources of growth.

Declining new car sales mean Sirius won’t see as many new subscribers as previously hoped for; in March it said it would increase efforts to reach used car buyers. The VW deal is part of that expanded effort, according to the satcaster.

VW executive Chris Hoehner said the automaker is consistently looking for new ways to position its “Certified Pre-Loved” program. “We feel this program helps enhance our value proposition and continues to strengthen our pursuit to provide the best possible customer experience.”

Volkswagen has offered Sirius since model year 2007. Sirius is standard on the GTI, GLI, Eos, New Beetle, New Beetle convertible, Passat, Passat wagon and Touareg. Sirius is also standard on select Tiguan, Jetta and Rabbit packages.

Meanwhile, Sirius XM has been trying to refinance and pay down debt. Its subsidiary XM announced a $350 million offering of senior notes on Monday.
