Westwood One Acquires Sigalert

Plans to expand those traffic products from eight to 65 markets

Sigalert is now part of Westwood One.

Sigalert was launched 11 years ago by Jonathan Berke and Joel Johnstone, who stay on. The seller is Jaytu Technologies LLC, a regional provider of traffic info.

This is an acquisition that Westwood One, which owns the Metro Traffic brand, hopes will beef up its online and mobile offerings and graphics. Sigalert displays road maps with traffic speed and accident details on the Web, mobile phones, PDAs and TV reports. It also provides personalized alerts to consumers.

“Sigalert has become a source for the most up-to-date, useful traffic information in Southern California, one of the most highly congested traffic areas in the country, as well as in Northern California and Arizona,” stated Westwood One President/CEO Rod Sherwood, who called this “a perfect platform for Westwood One to expand our digital business and provide the most useful on-line traffic information to our radio, television and digital affiliates.”

Westwood One plans to expand Sigalert’s traffic products from eight to approximately 65 markets in 2010. The company says Sigalert’s presentation will give Metro TV affiliates a “three-screen” package for broadcast, online and mobile uses, helping make their traffic offerings more consistent.
