Pacifica Radio Network — “the oldest noncommercial broadcast network in the United States” — has a new affiliate, WHAV in Ward Hill, Mass.
The station is operated by Public Media of New England Inc. WHAV describes itself first as “the Merrimack Valley’s pioneer Internet radio station at WHAV.net and a number of public access cable television stations” in the area, while noting that it is also heard on the AM dial in northern Haverhill and Plaistow, N.H.
WHAV General Manager Tim Coco made the announcement.
The station is airing most of Pacifica’s schedule, including “Democracy Now” and “Free Speech Radio News.”
Pacifica Network includes 150 “public, community, university, low-power and Internet radio stations,” some of which are outside the United States, Canada, Europe and Africa.
Pacifica Radio, which grew out of KPFA(FM) in Berkeley, Calif., owns five of those stations.
