WHCP Rolls Out Calendar to Raise Funds

Features work of local photographers

WHCP(LP), the Cambridge, Md.-based low-power FM station due to launch in July, has produced a calendar featuring the work of local photographers and a listing of local events.

The calendar is meant as a fundraising tool for the nonprofit station. Those who become a station member will receive a calendar and it will also be sold in local shops in Cambridge, located on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

“We want the Cambridge Community Radio calendar to combine stunning visual appeal with consolidated information on local events ranging from Dorchester school closings to Cambridge special events to local hunting season openings. We think we’ve hit the mark,” said Mike Starling, general manager for WHCP, 101.5 FM.

“’Cambridge — A Great Place to Be!’ is the on-air slogan, and this calendar vividly illustrates why Cambridge has become such an attractive destination for tourists, athletes, visitors and retirees.”

Starling says public radio stations around the country have donated thousands of dollars’ worth of “gently used” studio and transmission equipment and computers. WHCP has identified tower space and is now looking for at least 500 square feet of affordable studio space.

WHCP volunteers are busy with fundraising, engineering construction, and program planning.
