Will Voice of Russia Cancel SW Broadcasts?

Broadcaster will neither confirm nor deny rumor

North American and Western European international shortwave broadcasters aren’t the only one’s feeling budget squeezes. RIA Novosti reports that the Voice of Russia will cut its shortwave service as of Jan. 1, 2014.

However, the government shortwave broadcaster, originally known as Radio Moscow, has not confirmed this plan of action, according to The SWLing Post.

The Voice of Russia has been broadcasting since 1922, but will likely go off the air due to the high cost of this method of radio broadcasting.
