Winston Loyd, former engineer for WABC(FM) and WPLJ(FM), died on Sept. 18 in Matawan, N.J.
He was 88.
He also had worked for ABC on the TV side. He retired in 1987 as chief engineer after 35 years. The tuning house for the WABC transmitter site in Lodi, N.J., is dedicated to him, according to a 2005 story on Fybush.com.
According to an obituary in the Asbury Park Press, Loyd returned to college late in life and earned an associate’s degree at the age of 72.
Loyd was from Louisiana and served in the Marines in World War II. He is survived by two sons and a daughter.
