WIOO Returns to Air

Broadcasters offer gear, space after electrical fire damages WIOO building

WIOO(AM), Carlisle, Pa., is back on the air, broadcasting from a transmitter site after most of the station’s equipment was destroyed in an electrical fire on Monday.

WHP(TV), Harrisburg, Pa., reports that other broadcasters in the area have offered equipment and space to station owners, the Swidler family, who simulcast country programming on WIOO at 1000 kHz and WEEO on 1480 kHz, plus two FM translators.

No one was hurt in the fire that badly damaged the building, Radio World reported.

WIOO is still owned by its founding family. WIOO Owner Eric Swidler told WHP after the fire: “We’ve been here since the early part of the 1960s. Founded by my family along with my father, when you see something like this, there’s a lot that runs through your mind.”
