WLTH Garners $16,000 Fine for Tower Violations

WLTH Garners $16,000 Fine for Tower Violations

The FCC upheld an earlier $16,000 fine against WLTH(AM) in Gary Indiana for several tower violations, including not registering its tower, not letting the FAA know tower lights were out and not having red obstruction lighting. The daytime antenna is more than 200 feet above ground level and subject to tower marking rules, said the FCC in its order.
WLTH said lightning caused sporadic power loss and also hunters shot out the tower lights.
Although WLTH corrected the problems, the agency fined the station for continuing to operate without tower lights and not informing the FAA of the outages quickly enough.
