Every Christmas season a number of iHeartMedia (formerly Clear Channel) radio stations switch formats to all-Christmas music. Just for fun, we might keep a very loose track of them.
Two that we have been made aware of are WMOV(FM) in Norfolk, Va., and WTRY(FM) in the Albany, N.Y. cluster. There doesn’t seem to be a format pattern of the switches — WMOV is an AC station while WTRY spins oldies.
WTRY claims to have been making the seasonal move since 2001 while WMOV is a more recent devotee, starting in 2011. IHeartMedia Albany Regional Programming Manager John Cooper said, “Oldies 98-3 playing holiday music has become an annual tradition for listeners in the Capital District.”
