WNYC Host Andre Bernard Dies

Andre Bernard died last week at the age of 78. He was a classical music host for WNYC in New York until he retired in 1990.
The cause of death was a heart attack, his family said in an announcement from the station.
He joined WNYC in 1965, where he worked as a newscaster, interviewer and classical announcer. He was known host of the programs “Around New York” and “Afternoon Music.”
In addition to his work in radio, he had been an actor in theater and television as well as a teacher of movement. He was born Bernard Moses in Georgia and was raised in South Carolina. He is survived by three sisters and a brother.
