WNYC Likes ViewCast for Greene Space

It uses portable encoding system in performance venue

Public broadcast organization WNYC Radio in New York is using ViewCast’s Niagara GoStream SURF portable encoding system for audio and video production at its new Jerome L. Greene Performance Space.

“Most shows from The Greene Space are webcast live and archived in real time in Adobe Flash formats via the Niagara GoStream SURF,” the supplier stated.

“Many programs are also made available as video-on-demand (VOD) via the WNYC Web site.”

ViewCast quotes consultant Bill Porter of Whitehorse Productions saying, “We tried to configure a PC-based encoder, but the machine time and labor for encoding via software, particularly for VOD, was both difficult and expensive.” The chosen system provides live streaming of video programs and performances, plus VOD turnaround by next morning, he said.

WNYC Radio calls itself “America’s most listened-to AM/FM public radio stations,” reaching more than 1 million listeners weekly.
