World Radio Day 2015 Includes Hackathon

Feb. 13 marks first broadcast by UN Radio in 1946

World Radio Day will again be celebrated Feb. 13, 2015 at Popov Hall in ITU Headquarters, Geneva, Switzerland.

This year’s theme is “Youth and Innovation in Radio.” The event, according to the ITU website, “seeks to raise awareness about the importance of radio, facilitate access to information through radio, and enhance networking among broadcasters.”

The 2015 event will include a Radio Hackathon in ICT Discovery, beginning Feb. 12 at 2 p.m. and ending Feb. 13 at 3 p.m.

Other events scheduled as part of the celebration include an exhibition tour in in Popov Space; technical sessions, a panel consisting of the ITU Secretary-General, UNESCO Director General, UNOG Director General, EBU Director General, President of Academia Española de la Radio, Secretary-General of AERC, Director of Marconi Foundation; a film on radio and innovation; key findings from the Radio Hackathon. The UN Jazz Ensemble international World Radio Day Concert will close out the event.
