WorldDAB Announces Europe and APAC DAB Figures

Report says almost 50 million receivers have been sold across featured markets

The numbers are in on the sales and coverage of DAB digital radio in Europe and Asia Pacific as of the second quarter 2016 with WorldDAB releasing a full report.

Road and overall population coverage statistics, receiver sales, household penetration and number of national DAB/BAB+ stations are included in the report.

Some of the main findings include that nearly 50 million (48,232,000) consumer and automated receivers have now been sold across featured markets; that five times the number of national stations are available on DAB/DAB+ as compared to FM/AM; coverage in Norway and Switzerland are at 99.5 percent; 53 percent of listening in Switzerland is now digital; and household penetration in Norway has reached 67 percent, with the U.K. just behind it at 56 percent.

“Digital radio continues to go from strength to strength with all markets making significant progress in the last six months,” said Patrick Hannon, president of WorldDAB.
