WorldDMB, RTM, ABU Hold DAB+ Workshop

Event takes place in Kuala Lumpur and includes transmission demonstration

The “RTM-WorldDMB-ABU DAB+ Technology Workshop and Transmission Demonstration” will be held Feb. 28–March 4 at the IPPTAR Building in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Registration is free.

The event will consist of a two-day technology workshop, one-day transmission trial and a field measurement exercise that will take place around the city, followed by a half-day session exploring the results of the test. The demonstration and workshop are intended to showcase the standard and its transmission technology in such a way as to compare it to analog FM broadcast.

WorldDMB writes in its program description that the “project aims to equip the participants with expertise in the area of digital radio broadcasting helping them in carrying out similar implementations in their own countries.”

Topics of note include: automotive best practices; examples of new services and platforms; opportunities for Malaysian broadcasters in the realm of smartphones and hybrid radio apps; a description of the RTM Kuala Lumpur DAB+ trial system; coverage and network planning; and DAB+ business case review.

Featured speakers include Patrick Hannon, president of WorldDMB; Wilson Ng, digital systems technologist at Commercial Radio Australia; Dato’ Abu Bakar bin Ab Rahim, deputy director general (operation) for RTM; and Alex Ng, Asia Tx sales support manager for Harris Broadcast (Singapore).
