WorldSpace has appointed Stephen Shenefield as senior vice president, receiver development. Shenefield was VP of engineering at Boston Acoustics, where he helped create the first tabletop HD Radio.
He led MP3 and DVD product development initiatives and has vendor relationships in China and Europe. Prior to joining Boston Acoustics, Shenefield served as director at Lucasfilm Ltd.’s THX Division, working with electronics companies such as Panasonic, Altec-Lansing, Harman International, Pioneer and Kenwood to develop home entertainment products.
At WorldSpace he will be responsible for the development, strategy and production of the next generation of WorldSpace satellite receivers. The company said those receivers are a critical component of its mission to increase satellite radio capabilities in its key areas of India, China and Western Europe.
Shenefield told Radio World he would be based in Boston but travel frequently to the new headquarters of WorldSpace in Silver Spring, Md.
Shenefield serves on the board of trustees for the Harvard Radio Broadcasting Corp. and is also a member of the AES.
