‘Wounded Warrior’ Donations Exceed Hopes

Donna Boortz, wife of Jones Radio Networks syndicated radio talk show host Neal Boortz, held a fundraiser on Aug. 9 at The Ravinia Club in Atlanta, where she raised more than $70,000 for The Wounded Warrior Project.

The non-profit helps provide services and comfort for severely wounded members of the Armed Forces. Boortz staffers Belinda Skelton, Royal Marshall and Cristina Gonzalez chipped in to help with the evening, as did several Boortz advertisers.

“Every year we participate in an event where a club member serves as ‘bartender’ and some of the proceeds from the drinks and tips go toward that member’s charity,” explained Neal Boortz. “The hundreds of people who showed up to bid on the items donated by my wonderful advertisers and area businesses really got into it. Donna told me that she hoped to raise at least $25,000. When the total was announced, she broke into tears.”

“Every person there, no matter how they might feel about the war [in Iraq], left knowing they had done something to help the men and women who have sacrificed so much for our country,” said Donna Boortz.
