Emmis pulled the staff of the morning show at New York’s WQHT(FM) off the air after they aired a song that made fun of the tsunami victims, Reuters reported. The station aired the song several times on the “Miss Jones in the Morning” show, hosted by Tarsha Jones, whose air name is Miss Jones.
“What happened is morally and socially indefensible,” said Emmis President Rick Cummings in a statement. “All involved, including myself, are ashamed and deeply sorry. I know the members of the morning show are truly contrite. They know their actions are inexcusable.”
The staff of the show has apologized and been suspended; the seven-member team agreed to donate one week’s pay to relief efforts, the wire service reported.
