WRDN(AM) Reels in Chairman Pai During Wisconsin Visit

Visit was part of a roadtrip to the Badger State this week

Pai took the opportunity to glad hand with local business leaders, listeners and legislators.

FCC Chairman Ajit Pai has made no secret of his love of live, local AM radio, so it should come as no surprise that the chairman made a point of visiting WRDN(AM) in Durand, Wis., as part of a larger trip to America’s Dairyland this week.

In fact, Pai had foreshadowed this visit four years ago in a statement he made after meeting with WRDN “Reel Country” 1430 co-owner Brian Winnekins.

Winnekins, right, interviews the chairman.

Winnekins shared photos from Pai’s visit on the station’s Facebook page. He is shown with Winnekins, “Pepin County Legislators along with area business leaders including representatives from Ntec Communications and Cochrane Telephone Co-Op and station listeners,” Winnekins wrote in an email. He said the chairman discussed AM revitalization, rural broadband and rural communications, and Pai also participated in an interview.

Pai’s Wisconsin itinerary also included a visit to the Wisconsin Broadcasters Associatin Hall of Fame, the Wells Building in Milwaukee, meeting with broadband providers and an obligatory trip to Ellsworth Cooperative Creamery (AKA the “Cheese Curd Capital of Wisconsin”), among other highlights.
